Description:
Your journey begins in Dhaka, a city of 20 million souls where history is written in every narrow alley. The first two days are dedicated to unearthing the Mughal and British colonial layers of the city. In Old Dhaka, the air is thick with the scent of spices and the sound of rickshaw bells. You will explore Lalbagh Fort, an unfinished 17th-century masterpiece, and the Ahsan Manzil (Pink Palace), which stands as a silent witness to the lifestyle of the Nawabs. A boat ride on the Buriganga River at sunset offers a perspective of the city that is both chaotic and beautiful. Before leaving for the south, you will marvel at the National Parliament House, a world-renowned modernist architectural feat by Louis Kahn, symbolizing the birth of a nation.
On the third day, a scenic train or flight brings you to Chittagong, the country’s largest port city. Here, the landscape begins to roll into hills. You will visit the Ethnological Museum, the only one of its kind in the country, providing a crucial introduction to the diverse indigenous groups you will soon meet in the hills. The city is a blend of industry and nature; you’ll explore Foy’s Lake, a man-made sanctuary surrounded by lush greenery, and Patenga Sea Beach, where the Karnaphuli River meets the Bay of Bengal. Watching the massive cargo ships anchored on the horizon under a golden sunset is a quintessential Chittagong experience.
The final leg of the tour takes you deep into the Chittagong Hill Tracts. Bandarban is unlike any other place in Bangladesh—a land of clouds, bamboo cottages, and ancient tribal traditions. Over four days, you will ascend to Nilgiri, a peak maintained by the Bangladesh Army where you can literally touch the clouds. You will visit the Golden Temple (Buddha Dhatu Jadi), which sits atop a 60-meter hill and shines like a beacon over the valley. The journey includes a boat cruise on the emerald Sangu River, winding through steep limestone cliffs. You will meet the Marma, Mru, and Tripura communities, learning about their “Jhum” (slash-and-burn) cultivation and unique weaving. Your tour concludes with a return to Dhaka, leaving you with memories of the hills’ silence and the city’s song.
