OVERVIEW

Panam Nagar traces its origins to the 13th century. Once a thriving commercial center, it declined in the 17th century following the relocation of the capital from Sonargaon. Sonargao Museum is one of the old capitals of the historic region of Bengal and was an administrative center of eastern Bengal. It was also a riverport. Its hinterland was the center of the muslin trade in Bengal, with a large population of weavers and artisans.

Place Panam Nagar (Panam City)

Panam Nagar (Panam City) was an ancient city, the archaeological ruins of which are situated in the Sonargaon area. It is one of the earliest cities in Bangladesh that is still standing. Among the three cities of the period: Boro Nagar, Khas Nagar, and Panam Nagar; Panam Nagar was the most attractive one.

Place Goaldi Mosque

Constructed in 1519, the mosque found its origins under the patronage of Mulla Hizabar Akbar Khan. Its creation took place during the reign of Sultan Alauddin Husain Shah of Bengal. Situated at a locale known as Goaldi, precisely half a mile northeast of Panam City in Sonargaon.
